Comparison of 2000 Census demographic data and 2005 demographic estimates

As part of the IECAM project, demographers at the University of Illinois have prepared estimates for 2005 demographic data on child population, number of children living in poverty, and family language use. The data presented in the IECAM data collection are the 2000 Census data.

The 2005 estimated data are viewable in a separate Excel spreadsheet, which you can access below. Please note in viewing these 2005 estimates that there are many variables which may influence their accuracy. Please read the caveats below to understand the limitations of these estimates, and the detailed methodological information to understand how they were developed.

Population:

  • 2000 number (total population, population by age cohort 0-5, total population 0-5)
  • 2005 estimate (see demographic methodology)

Poverty:

  • 2000 number (children 5 and under 5 below 100% and 185% Federal Poverty Level)
  • 2005 estimate (see demographic methodology)
  • 2000 number (children by age cohort 0-5, total 0-5, below 400% Federal Poverty Level)
  • 2005 estimate (see demographic methodology)

Language:

  • 2000 number (households speaking Spanish and speaking other non-English languages, that are linguistically isolated)
  • 2005 estimate (see demographic methodology)
