What is IECAM?
The Illinois Early Childhood Asset Map (IECAM) provides demographic data on young children and data on early care and education (ECE) services in Illinois. The demographic data include data on population, poverty, language, and working family conditions. ECE data include data on slot-based services such as Preschool for All, Head Start, and child are; and non-slot-based services such as early intervention and Parents Too Soon.
IECAM is a project of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) that is operated in the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The primary goals for the project are to:
- provide an effective tool for resource allocation and planning for ECE
- enable data to drive decision making about ECE resource allocation
- develop a one-stop source of information on publicly-funded and private ECE
- support a “culture of transparency” that contributes to accountability and that clarifies the process of distribution of state funds for early care and education
